Abstract

The immune system is one of the most incredible systems of the human body. It is a very intelligent and tightly regulated system that saves the human body from pathogenic invaders and even keeps a precise memory of the pathogen to arm the host from any further encounter. It is not possible to explain all the immune system’s functions and cellular and/or molecular interactions leading to an immune response in a single chapter. Here, we have summarized the main required characteristics and elements of the immune system for an overview, prior to explaining any defects in this system that results in human diseases. © 2023 Elsevier Inc.
