Abstract

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has recently spread worldwide as a life-threatening disease. According to the lack of approved treatment for COVID-19, the World Health Organization recommended utilizing traditional medical systems to face this health problem. Traditional Persian medicine (TPM) suggests different steps for the management of COVID-19, including prevention considering the six essential principles of a healthy lifestyle, treatment with foods, treatment with medicinal herbs, and nonpharmacologic treatments. Accordingly, many clinical trials have evaluated single-herbal, polyherbal, and nonpharmacologic approaches of TPM against COVID-19. In sum, holistic approaches and specific treatments of TPM provide promising suggestions for primary and secondary prevention of COVID-19. © 2025 Elsevier Inc.
