Abstract

Age-related macular degeneration (ARMD) is the main cause of irreversible visual loss affecting 10-15% of adults over 65 years of age in developed countries. It has traditionally been categorized into two major types: non-exudative or dry AMD (drusen, non-neovascular pigment epithelial detachments (PEDs), macular pigmentary alterations and migrations and geographic or non-geographic atrophy) and exudative or wet AMD (neovascularization of any type). In this chapter we discussed the multimodal imaging of these types and the clues for differentiation between them and their roles in treatment policies. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2021.
