Abstract

Measurement of the blood glucose is of great importance in treatment of diabetes. Nowadays, commercial glucose biosensors (glucometers) are used as pointofcare devices for this purpose. Patients use the device one to six times a day to manage their diabetes. Long-term testing of the blood sugar using glucometers makes it a painful job, especially in children and elderly. By progress in science and technologies, the idea of using other fluids of the body for non-invasive glucose monitoring was created. Tears and saliva attracted more interests among the other fluids. However, the concentration of glucose in these fluids is too low to be measured by the common glucometers. A new generation of the biosensors has been recently designed based on different nanomaterials. Remarkable properties of these nanomaterials make it possible to design the more sensitive glucose biosensors with lower limit of detection. This chapter reviews the recent findings on non-invasive glucose biosensorsbased nanomaterials. © 2015 Scrivener Publishing LLC. All rights reserved.
