Abstract

Type 2 diabetes (T2D) and obesity are now global pandemics and are increasing in prevalence and so increasing in mortality and morbidity. Obesity is a major contributor to the development of T2D. Considering the importance of obesity in the development of metabolic disorders and the role of free fatty acids of blood and visceral fat in insulin resistance, it can be concluded that there is a close relationship between obesity and T2D. Several reviews have been written and described the association of some environmental and genetic factors. Also in some reviews just one related gene and it's mechanisms of action have been described. In this study, we reviewed a total of 97 research papers. Of these, 80 studies were population studies and 17 studies were in vivo. The relationship between T2D and obesity has been investigated and has been referred to as the role of related genes and environmental factors in the development of T2D. Therefore, most of the discovered genetic, epigenetic and environmental factors in both human and animal models were introduced completely, which hasn't been written in another review till now. © 2020
