Abstract

A sol–gel process was used to prepare praseodymium oxides doped TiO2 photocatalysts (praseodymium titanate) trimmed on Fe3O4@SiO2 core–shell nanoparticles. These nanostructures were studied through X-ray diffraction spectroscopy (XRD), UV–Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS), photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy, field emission-scanning electron and transmission electron microscopy techniques (FE-SEM, TEM), and vibrating sample magnetometery (VSM). The photocatalytic behavior of various samples particles for degrading methylene orange (MO) was evaluated and the best catalyst composition was determined. Besides, the weight percentage of praseodymium titanate on magnetic photocatalyst was inquired representing that the photocatalyst with 10 wt% of praseodymium titanate showed the best photocatalytic activity. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature.
