Abstract

Coriander (Coriandrum sativum L.) is a medicinal and culinary plant whose aerial parts and fruits are used for medicinal purposes. In TPM, the plant is considered to have cold and dry nature. The fruit is known as a brain, heart, and stomach tonic, while the leaves are hypnotic in TPM. Clinical studies demonstrated the effectiveness of coriander topically in dermatitis and Tinea pedis and orally in migraine headache. In preclinical studies, neuroprotective, cardioprotective, and gastroprotective effects of coriander are demonstrated. Also, coriander showed improvement of insomnia, pain, neuropathy, and anxiety in animal studies. Health risks following the proper administration of coriander have not been reported; though, in the view of TPM, coriander administration should be limited in respiratory problems. © 2024 Taylor and Francis Group, LLC.
