Abstract

Aim: In this study, we focused on the p53 codon 72 polymorphism and HPV infections as a possible contributing factor in susceptibility to prostate cancer (PCa). Methods: Eighty histopathologically confirmed prostate biopsies comprising of 40 cancer cases and 40 benign prostate hyperplasia cases were used. Results: A significant difference was not observed between HPV presence and PCa progression. Our results showed that the p53 protein with Arg (p53-Arg72) variant contributes to the development of PCa. Conclusion: There is a near-significant association between Arg/Arg polymorphism and PCa. © 2017 Future Medicine Ltd.
