Abstract

This systematic review and dose–response meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials investigate the influence of psyllium consumption on metabolic syndrome indices. We use PubMed, Scopus and ISI Web of Science (WOS) for searching to recognize eligible publications from 2022 to 2023. Psyllium consumption significantly decreases fasting blood glucose (FBS) (weighted mean difference [WMD]: −6.89; 95% CI: −10.62, −3.16; p < 0.001), and systolic blood pressure (SBP) (WMD: −2.24; 95% CI: −3.13, −1.35; p < 0.05); non-significantly increases High-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) (WMD: 0.57; 95% CI: −0.88, 2.04; p > 0.05), diastolic blood pressure (DBP) (WMD: 0.04; 95% CI: −0.52, 0.61; p > 0 0.05), and waist circumference (WC) (WMD: 0.72; 95% CI: −0.92, 2.37; p > 0.05), and non-significant decreases triglyceride (TG) (WMD: −5.29; 95% CI: −12.14, 1.54; p > 0 0.05). Results showed a significant decrease in FBS and SBP, and non-significant increase in HDL_C, DBP and WC, and decrease in TG levels following psyllium consumption. © 2023
