Abstract

Emerging Pollutants (EPs) are a group of toxins with low concentrations but substantial toxicity. In recent years, the environment has gained much attention. These trace contaminants can accumulate in creatures and eventually make their way into humans, creating a public health risk. A low-cost and effective biochar as an adsorbent was applied to treat EPs in water. However, primary biochar has some drawbacks, like the least adsorption capacity and small sorption limits. However, biochar must be improved to be used to treat emulsifiable concentrate water. Numbers of attempt has been made on the confiscation of EPs from effluents by modified biochar (mBC) are currently available. Varying techniques of functionalizing biochar with different physicochemical properties were investigated, resulting in different impact behavior and adsorption processes of customized biochar on various EPs. It is vital to evaluate and assimilate information regarding EP adsorption in a systematic manner. The main drawbacks of AC after use are that it cannot be reactivated, and it is also sometimes difficult to dig out of water treatment reservoirs. The first method for removing EP from charcoal is discussed in this chapter. The performance and adsorption mechanism of mBC on conventional EPs are examined. Ultimately, the leading study trends and developments, along with ideas and recommendations for impending progress, are discussed. © 2024 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
