Abstract

Acephate (30560-19-1) is an organophosphorus insecticide used for crops and plants to decrease soil insects. In addition, it is used by homeowners and food handlers to control insect exposure in the house or foods. Its primary mechanism of action is inhibiting acetylcholinesterase, which degrades acetylcholine in the synaptic cleft, causing overstimulation of acetylcholine through its receptors. It is converted to metamidophos, which are toxic for humans and the environment. © 2024 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
