Abstract

These days, electronic waste (e-waste) can be found almost everywhere around us owing to the fast technological growth and increasing demand for brand new electronic devices and gadgets, which pose a great threat to the environment if it is not appropriately handled or managed. E-waste is mainly composed of valuable metals and hazardous substances, all of which should be properly managed or they can ruin natural resources and do harm to the environment. This review mainly centers on a comprehensive review of the methods used for the recovery of valuable materials such as metals, plastics, and glass in e-waste. The processes of metal recovery, namely hydrometallurgy, pyrometallurgy, and biometallurgy, are discussed in depth. The manuscript will also review the challenges and influencing parameters which facilitate e-waste recycling. © 2027 Wiley-VCH GmbH. All rights reserved.
