Abstract

2-Nitrofuran is a flammable solid crystalline compound member of the nitrofuran antimicrobial agents. The toxicity of nitrofurans is mainly related to the reduction of the nitro group, which leads to the formation of reactive intermediates and oxidative stress generation that may be responsible for undesirable effects and genotoxicity. Exposure to nitrofurans may occur due to the ingestion of contaminated food obtained from the polluted soil. © 2024 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
