Abstract

2-Naphthylamine has been known as a human carcinogen. Production of 2-Naphthylamine on an industrial scale has been banned due to its carcinogenic effects. It is mostly absorbed via the skin and respiratory tract. The acute toxicity of 2-Naphthylamine in humans causes methemoglobinemia, hemorrhagic cystitis, as well as cerebral hypoxia and other organs. Moreover, chronic exposure to the compound has been linked to bladder cancer and it can cause dysuria, hematuria, and hemorrhagic cystitis. In the body, 2-Naphthylamine is rapidly metabolized and it has been found that N-hydroxy-2-naphthylamine metabolite, induces the carcinogenic effects of 2-Naphthylamine in the body. © 2024 Elsevier Inc.
