Abstract

Tamoxifen is an antiestrogenic medication that is used in treatment and prevention of breast cancer. Acute toxicity with tamoxifen is rare. Side effects are minor and tolerable in chronic use of therapeutic dosage. Although its efficacy in treatment and prevention of breast cancer is established, concerns about increase in risk of endometrial cancer in long-term use still exist. It also disrupts fertility. Tamoxifen has been attributed to formation of DNA-adduct in liver, mostly in animal studies. In the case of acute intoxication, supportive care is recommended. © 2024 Elsevier Inc.
