Abstract

Background and Aim: The pre-hospital emergency environment is highly stressful and requires rapid, efficient decision-making. Evidence suggests that emotional intelligence (EI) is a critical skill that can influence both decision-making quality and resource management under pressure. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between EI and time management skills among pre-hospital emergency staff. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in 2024 using a convenience sample of 200 emergency medical technicians. Data were collected through three questionnaires: a demographic information form, a time management scale, and the Bradberry & Graves Emotional Intelligence Test. Data analysis was performed in SPSS-16 using descriptive statistics (mean, standard deviation, frequency) and Pearson's correlation coefficient. Results: The mean age of participants was 33.64 ± 7.39 years, and the majority (95%) were male. The mean EI score was 147.63 ± 18.21, indicating a high overall level. Similarly, most participants (89.6%) demonstrated strong time management abilities. A statistically significant positive correlation was found between the total score of emotional intelligence and time management (P < 0.001). Conclusion: The findings indicate that emotional intelligence is significantly associated with time management skills in pre-hospital emergency personnel. Enhancing EI through targeted training programs could be an effective strategy for improving time management, thereby increasing the overall efficiency and effectiveness of pre-hospital emergency systems. © 2025 Baqiyatallah University of Medical Sciences.
