Abstract

This review focuses on extensive research on nanofibrous membranes in air and liquid filters, emphasizing ingredients, characterization, and development process. The primary emphasis is on air filtration for personal safety, using respirators and face masks to address respiratory threats during flu pandemics and potential bioterrorist events. Additionally, the article explores the global challenge of ensuring safe drinking water, especially for the one billion people lacking access worldwide. Finally, the review addresses the current COVID-19 pandemic, emphasizing the need for robust protective measures, including fiber-based facemasks. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2025.
